| Scotian
Slope Non-exclusive Multibeam Survey Conducted by C & C
Technologies |
| C & C
Technologies, Inc. of Lafayette, Louisiana USA completed a multibeam bathymetry
and imagery survey of the Canadian Scotian Slope in June of 2000. Marathon,
Murphy, Norsk Hydro, and PanCanadian sponsored this non-exclusive survey,
which encompassed 28,000 square kilometers of the lease blocks ranging in
depth from 600 to 3500 meters. These data are contributing directly to several
issues relating to hydrocarbon prospectively, surficial geohazards, and
environmental conditions at the seabed. The multibeam bathymetry data, with
a pixel size of approximately 30 meters, reveal the complex seabed morphology
of the Scotian Slope. The eastern part of the survey area is highly dissected
by canyons, with broad flat floors that show no evidence of recent sediment
failure. The western part of the survey area is much smoother, but large
areas of the seabed appear to have surficial failures. Many of these failures
in deeper water have linear headscarps, developed along faults previously
imaged with high-resolution seismic profiles. Such faults are targets for
investigation of surface seeps using ROV technology. For the complete press

Prepares Next Five-Year Leasing Program |
| The Minerals
Management Service is soliciting comments and suggestions as it prepares
a new Five-Year outer continental shelf oil and gas leasing program for
2002-2007. The program establishes the size, timing and location of oil and
gas lease sales over the next five years. Acreage off the Pacific and Atlantic
coasts, a portion of the Gulf of Mexico offshore Florida and Alaska's North
Aleutian Basin have been withdrawn from future leasing due to a 1998 presidential
directive. The agency also is soliciting input on issues and alternatives
that should be addressed in the Five-Year plan's accompanying environmental
impact statement.

| McMoRan
Exploration Co. Announces Significant Gas Discovery at Eugene Island 193
-North Tern- |
McMoRan Exploration
Co. (NYSE:MMR - news) today reported the following update on its oil and
gas exploration and development activities and other company activities:
Significant Gas Discovery at Eugene Island 193 No.3 (North Tern-deep) -
exploration well. The Eugene Island Block 193 No.3 exploratory well (North
Tern-deep prospect) has discovered 230 feet of net gas pay in two sands,
the first between 16,460 and 16,613 feet and the second between 16,790 and
16,952 feet. The initial target objective for the Eugene Island 193 North
Tern prospect was a gross unrisked potential of approximately 50 billion
cubic feet of natural gas (bcf). However, the pay sands encountered are
approximately twice as thick as indicated by the 3-D seismic data and, therefore,
McMoRan believes this prospect could recover 100 bcf or more.
McMoRan anticipates
the well can be completed and put on production during the second quarter
of 2001 utilizing the Eugene Island 193-A platform acquired in 2000. Although
the No.3 well has not been flow tested, because of the thickness and porosity
of the sands, McMoRan believes the well could produce at an initial flow
rate of approximately 50 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (mmcf/d).
McMoRan has a 53.4 percent working interest and a 42.9 percent net revenue
interest. McMoRan controls 10,000 acres in the area in approximately 90 feet
of water, approximately 50 miles offshore Louisiana.
