| BP Trinidad
Sets Plan For $600 mln Off-Shore Natural Gas Project In July |
PORT OF SPAIN,
Trinidad-- Tuesday June 5, 2:16 PM EDT, (Reuters) - BP Trinidad and Tobago
said it is preparing to launch a US$600 million off-shore natural gas project
in July, in part to feed the Caribbean nation's giant Atlantic liquefied
natural gas plant.
The gas facility,
known as the Kapok project, will comprise a state-of-the-art, unmanned gas
production platform linked to a new central processing unit in an offshore
gas field, the company said in its quarterly newsletter released this week.
The central processing unit is capable of processing 1.6 billion cubic feet
of gas per day in addition to considerable quantities of crude and condensate,
the company said. The Kapok field has an estimated three trillion cubic feet
of gas which will be brought on stream for trains two and three at Atlantic
LNG, Trinidad's major liquefied natural gas plant owned by a consortium of
companies including BPTT.
Another aspect
of the project now under way is the fabrication and installation of 48-inch
(122-cm) pipeline some 30 miles (48 km) long, capable of delivering more
than one billion cubic feet of gas daily from BPTT's offshore fields, the
company said. BPTT, a unit of BP Amoco Plc (BP) (BP), said when the projects
are completed, its gas delivery capability of one billion cubic feet daily
will double.
BPTT's Vice-President
of Upstream Development, Paul Smith, said a combination of growth factors
led to the development of the upstream expansion projects. "Our first
consideration was the rapid development of Trinidad and Tobago's gas economy.
The immediate challenge was to deliver large volumes of gas for the rapidly
expanding LNG project," he said. Smith said it was necessary to rethink BPTT's
approach to development of offshore resources as a result of new gas fields
being discovered and the need to prepare for "anticipated" future gas
discoveries.

| The
100 MVoxel/Sec Barrier Is Broken |
Trondheim,
15 May 2001-- Benchmarked today in VoxelVision's VISIONARIUM, we achieved
3D volume rendering record of more than 100 Mvoxels / sec on ONE (1) CPU.
The test was carried out on a PC using a 1.3 GHz Intel Pentium 4 processor
with a Diamond FIRE GL3 graphics card. No additional hardware to boost rendering
speed was used. The 3D dataset was 21.5 km by 32.8 km re-binned at 37.5m
by 37.5m and 2.5 sec of data around the prospective zone.
The entire data
volume was loaded and rendered in less than 3 seconds. It is believed that
the results show that VoxelVision has the fastest rendering algorithm in
the industry enabling users to work with real sized volumes in real time.
The hardware cost involved in the benchmark was less than US$ 5000 for computer
including the graphics card resulting in a price / performance unmatched
by any other vendor. Rendering technology is now available to everybody at
affordable prices. The combined rendering speed and the new Voxel Space
Interpretation (VSI) concept, to be released at AAPG and EAGE, will set new
standards for efficient interpretation. The beta release of VSI has been
very well received by the industry. For more information, contact Ola Fjeld,
Managing Director at VoxelVision AS, Phone +47 7387 3696 Fax +47 7387 3699,

| Thales
Signs Agreement To Buy Magellan & NavSol |
PARIS, May
29 /PRNewswire/ -- Thales and Orbital Sciences Corporation of the United
States have reached an agreement whereby Thales will acquire all of Orbital
Sciences' satellite navigation and positioning businesses for approximately
US$70 million (80 million euros). Two Orbital Sciences subsidiaries are involved
in the transaction: Magellan, one of the leading global suppliers of GPS
equipment, and NavSol, which is in charge of the Hertz car rental group's
satellite-based car navigation service. The closing of the transaction is
expected by the end of June 2001.
The two subsidiaries
generated combined revenues of US$114 million (130 million euros) in 2000.
Magellan is one of the world market leaders in professional, recreational
and automotive GPS products and has a strong presence in the United States.
The acquisition should also support growth in Thales subsidiaries with an
involvement in positioning applications (Thales Geosolutions and Global
Telematics) through the development of common technologies. It offers significant
opportunities for synergies with the Group's defense and aerospace
businesses.
Thales is a European
leader and global front-runner in professional electronics in three key markets:
Aerospace, Defense and Information Technology & Services. The Group employs
65,000 people worldwide of whom 50% are based outside of France. Present
in nearly 50 countries, Thales generated revenues of EUR 8.6 billion in 2000
(US$7.9 billion*), 70% of which came from international sales.

| PGS
Awarded Major North Sea Contract By Talisman Energy |
Talisman Energy
(UK) Ltd. awarded Petroleum Geo-Services ASA a significant contract to conduct
a 3-D single source, 16-streamer survey covering approximately 2,580 square
kilometers in the UK North Sea's Flotta Catchment Area.
The area includes
the Claymore, Scapa, Tartan, Highlander, Petronella, Piper B, Saltire and
Chanter fields as well as the Flotta Terminal. Much of the area already has
been covered by previous seismic surveys. This contract is the largest single
source contract streamer survey ever acquired, and is being shot with PGS'
vessel Ramform Victory. The survey, which began in late April, is scheduled
for completion in August 2001. The Ramform Victory is deploying 16 streamers
of 14,764 feet in length, for a total of 45 miles of streamer in the water.
The 16-streamer
tow is a first for the oil and gas industry, surpassing the previous record
of 12 streamers, according to PGS. The company said 16-streamer spreads offer
significantly higher data quality compared to conventional 3-D surveys. Single
source shooting substantially increases sampling redundancy at each subsurface
reflection point that translates into significant improvements in data quality,
particularly in geological areas normally characterized by poor data quality.

| Bush
will Retain California Drilling Moratorium |
During President
George W. Bush's recent trip to California to discuss energy issues with
Gov. Gray Davis, the president reiterated his plans to maintain the 10-year-old
moratorium on drilling in federal waters offshore California. Former President
Bush instituted the moratorium in response to strong opposition against drilling
in the environmentally sensitive area. President Bill Clinton continued the
moratorium during his eight-year term. The moratorium is in effect until
2012 but the president could lift the ban.
Several members
of California's congressional delegation already opposed any new offshore
exploration under the president's energy plan. President Bush's proposed
energy policy included language that the U.S. West Coast, as well as the
East Coast and the Eastern Gulf of Mexico offshore Florida might be considered
for future drilling to help the country reach long-term energy goals.
