Seismic Surveys Acquires M/V Gulf Supplier From Petro-Tech Peruana
S.A. |
Offshore
Seismic Surveys has acquired the M/V Gulf Supplier from Petro-Tech Peruana
S.A. after a successful two year 2-D and 3-D seismic acquisition program
in which 4,500Sq. Kms. of data has been obtained. Offshore Seismic Surveys,
a sister company of Offshore Express, Inc., in the U.S. adds this seismic
vessel to their fleet in order to continue the vessels operation within the
seismic industry.
Offshore Express,
Inc. already has large interests in the oil field service industry in the
Gulf of Mexico and now with this vessel can provide a broader range of services
to it's clients. The M/V Gulf Supplier with its 3-D, 3 streamer shallow water
capability and the state of the art seismic equipment on board which includes
a 24 Bit recording system and fiber optic streamers, can cover a larger area
in a shorter period. This is not the case for the conventional non-towed
streamer methods. "Thus, for the clients of the M/V Gulf Supplier, this
represents a considerable cost saving", per Bill Steel, Operations Manager.
After successful
negotiations between Mr. William Kallop, CEO of Offshore Express, Inc. and
Mr. Pascal Lipsky of Terra Energy Services, the M/V Gulf Supplier currently
is being mobilized to West Africa to begin acquisition of 2D/3D seismic surveys.
Parallel negotiations have also been successfully concluded with Mr. Simon
Redford of Gardline Surveys.
For more information
regarding the technical specifications of the M/V Gulf Supplier, its capabilities
and availability, please contact Bill Steel in Lima, Perú at (511)
440-9550, ext. 205 or Pascal Lipsky in Guilford, UK, at (44) 1483 549 472

| Leonid
Meteor Shower Above North America Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001 |
The Leonid
meteor shower will flicker and flash above North America late on Saturday,
Nov. 17 through early Nov. 18 and is expected to provide the greatest show
of shooting stars since 1966. All you need to see it are your eyes, a dark
location, and a little weather luck. This and a few other simple tips will
assure a good view of the event, which experts say should be spectacular
this year. The meteor shower will challenge the world's satellites by creating
the greatest threat of a meteor impact since 1966.
The Leonid meteor
shower is brought to us by comet Tempel-Tuttle, a ball of ice and rock that
orbits the Sun every 33 years, jettisoning tiny fragments of itself. Each
pass lays down a new trail of bits and pieces, or meteoroids, which burn
from the friction of the Earth's atmosphere as we cross the Tempel-Tuttle
trails every November. The resulting meteors are popularly called shooting
stars.
Tempel-Tuttle's
path is slightly different each orbit, and the individual debris streams
spread out and drift through space. So each year the number of shooting stars
varies depending on which trails Earth passes through. Forecasters say 2001
should provide the most spectacular show since 1966. Several peaks of activity
are expected in various parts of the world.
For North American
skywatchers, Earth will enter the heavier parts of the stream at about 11
p.m. EST on Saturday, Nov. 17. Activity will peak around 5 a.m. Sunday morning,
when as many as 13 meteors per minute could be visible, likely for a stretch
of time that lasts less than 1 hour. While Europeans will likely miss the
strongest bursts, the Leonids should still offer a decent shower there.

Group Announces Compact Trawl-Resistant Seafloor Platform |
Oceanside,
California-November 8, 2001-- The Oceanscience Group, Ltd, a San Diego County
oceanographic equipment manufacturer, has announced the introduction of a
new compact trawl-resistant seafloor platform. The platform, known as the
Barnacle, is designed to protect acoustic Doppler current profilers and other
instruments from trawls, anchors or snagging. It's dome-shaped and measures
142 cm diameter by 46 cm high and breaks down for shipping into four pie-shaped
pieces.
Oceanscience CEO
Ron George says that the Barnacle was produced in response to profiler users
who wanted a more portable version of Oceanscience's 2.1 m diameter Oyster
platform. The small size and convenient shipping package make the Barnacle
very attractive for scientists and engineers who work from small boats with
limited lifting capabilities.
Ballast and instruments
are inserted from outside the Barnacle. This allows the package to be assembled
on the seafloor, further reducing the required lifting capacity. A pair of
divers can easily deploy the Barnacle without lifting apparatus.
The Oceanscience
Group manufactures and imports a wide variety of oceanographic and hydrologic
instrument platforms for universities, government agencies and private industry.
Products include buoys, solar-powered buoy lights, oceanographic instrument
platforms, remotely controlled instrument boats, mooring equipment and wave
gauges. Website is at www.oceanscience.com. Offices are in Oceanside,
California.

Acceptance Of Acoustic Modems Gains Momentum |
LinkQuest's
high speed acoustic modems set the new benchmark for underwater acoustic
communication. Recent deliveries to significant number of diversified customers
indicate the acceptance in the ocean community is gaining momentum.
Among recent
deliveries, two sets of UWM1000 widebeam modems were shipped to the University
of Maryland for real-time monitoring of CTD and ocean currents in costal
areas. UWM4000 modems were provided to the Dunstaffnage Marine Lab of United
Kingdom for image transfer from deepsea underwater cameras. US Naval
Oceanographic Office purchased the UWM3000 omni-directional modems for command,
control and status uploading of its Seahorse AUV. A commercial instrument
company used UWM2000 modems to interface to its subsea instrument deployed
at 800 meters of water depth. The high speed modem allows the vessel of
opportunity to upload the sensor data without ever retrieving the sensor.
With an extensive
line of acoustic modems tailored for various applications and their superior
technical performance, LinkQuest's acoustic modems have become the preferred
choice for commercial, scientific and navy users all over the world. For

To Supply EdgeTech Full Spectrum X-STAR Chirp Sub-Bottom Profiling System
To The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa |
Survey Equipment
Services of Houston, TX announces that they are the recipients of a contract
award to supply the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama with an
EdgeTech Full Spectrum X-STAR Chirp Sub-Bottom profiling system. This is
the fourth major University to purchase an EdgeTech Full Spectrum Chirp profiling
system from Survey Equipment Services in recent months.
According to
University Spokesperson, Dr. Antonio Rodriguez, the University of Alabama
will be using the X-STAR system to map lithologic units sampled in sediment
cores regionally within bays along the Gulf of Mexico coast. >From examining
maps of these units, we can determine what a bay looked like in the past,
and calculate how quickly, and under what environmental conditions the bay
evolved to its present form. This is important because Gulf of Mexico bays
are particularly sensitive to present and future climate change. Before we
can accurately predict how coastal environments will respond in the future,
we need to examine how they responded to specific forcing mechanisms, such
as sea-level rise and climate changes, in the past.
