Announces Agreement In Principle For Sale Of OSIRIS BV to Fugro
NV. |
Paris, November
19, 2001 Version Française-- Compagnie Générale de
Géophysique (CGG, Paris Bourse 12016, NYSE GGY) announced that it
has reached an agreement in principle with Fugro NV, for the sale of OSIRIS
BV, its survey and positioning business.
Total year to date
revenue of this activity as of end of September 2001 was Euros 6.0 millions.
The transaction is expected to be closed before year end 2001.
The Osiris deal
is another step in the strategic move by CGG to continue its re-focus on
its core business. This strategic decision to re-focus has resulted in the
sale of their Airborne Géophysical Division to Fugro in 1999, the
sale in 2000 of Flagship, CGG's software interpretation division sale to
Paradigm, and in 2001, the sale of Osiris the positioning business to
Fugro.
Additionally and
in aiding it's re-focus, in 1999 CGG purchased Mark Products, the manufacturing
company of captors and cables for the seismic industry, Syntron the
manufacturing company specialized in offshore seismic equipment, and
in 2001 the two seismic vessels of Aker Geo.

Introduces Vessel Monitoring And Tracking Services |
ABERDEEN -
November 16, 2001 - Fugro SeaSTAR today announced the introduction of a new
range of asset monitoring and tracking services for the marine industry.
The SeaSTAR Asset
Monitoring Service (SAMS) is intended for use on both fixed and moving platforms,
including buoys and operational vessels, permitting owners to monitor position,
status and behavior of onboard sensors and systems, and to exercise remote
control of key functions. The system is highly flexible and can be tailored
to meet specific user requirements.
SAMS comprises
four basic functions: (1) data collection and processing onboard the asset,
(2) data transmission to and from the assets via SeaSTAR's message handling
server, (3) analysis and presentation of data to suit user preferences and
(4) alarms.
The basic onboard
SeaSTAR installation includes a GPS/DGPS receiver, application processor,
communications module and backup battery in case of external power supply
failure. For more complex requirements, such as navigation and oceanographic
buoy monitoring, Fugro offers the R-200 series of terminals that provide
advanced outstation-initiated fault reporting with two-way data communications.
Data from the vessel
is transmitted to shore via satellite or GSM to a secure web server maintained
by Fugro SeaSTAR. For worldwide communications, the Inmarsat C , D+ or Orbcomm
service may be used. For near-shore applications, GSM is preferred. The system
can support two-way text messaging in addition to the data and alarm
reporting.
Data can be accessed
from the SAMS web server via an Internet browser using a dial-up or permanent
connection. Multi-level password protection is provided. If the user desires
to have the data on their own local- or wide-area network, SAMS data can
be transferred to and from the Fugro server to the user's own network via
an encrypted Virtual Private Network (VPN) between firewalls at each end.
In this way, the client-installed system can integrate fully with existing
IT infrastructure, while still using a standard HTML browser for viewing.
For alarms, the
remote hardware can be configured for "exception reporting," so that it sends
messages only when an alarm condition is triggered, thereby avoiding the
need for constant polling, resulting in significant cost savings. In addition,
the web-based monitor can be set up to notify a prioritized list of users,
by fax, e-mail or SMS, whenever a particular situation arises.
"Fugro has a long
history of broadcasting, collecting and managing data for the marine community,"
said Phil Milne, general manager. "Experience has shown that no single solution
ever meets all user requirements. That's why we designed our asset monitoring
and tracking services to provide flexibility and choice at every level, meeting
the full range of user specifications."
Fugro SeaSTAR (UK)
is an operating unit of Fugro N.V., a multi-national group of companies that
provide geotechnical, survey and positioning services worldwide. More information
on SeaSTAR services may be found at

Issues Proposed Notice Of Central Gulf Lease Sale 182 |
The Minerals
Management Service announced in the Federal Register today the availability
of the Proposed Notice of Sale 182, an offshore oil and gas lease sale in
the Central Gulf of Mexico, scheduled for March 20, 2002. That proposed notice
includes several measures to increase domestic natural gas and oil production
to meet the Nation's energy needs.
One of these measures
is a continuation of a shallow-water, deep-gas initiative begun with the
year 2001 Gulf of Mexico offshore oil and gas lease sales.
An incentive
to drill for deep-gas deposits located in the shallow-water shelf area of
the Gulf of Mexico (in water depths less than 200 meters) by providing for
royalty suspension for the first 20 billion cubic feet (BCF) of production
from a well drilled 15,000 feet below sea level.
This shallow-water,
deep-gas measure is specifically designed to spur domestic natural gas production
during the years 2003-2007. Several studies, including the report issued
by the National Petroleum Council, indicate that the Nation's demand for
natural gas will grow from the current 22 trillion cubic feet (TCF) of gas
to 29 TCF of gas in 2010. This initiative, if adopted and implemented for
several offshore lease sales, could contribute additional gas production
in the range of 250 to 600 BCF in the period 2003 to 2007. Up to 10 percent
of this incremental effect could be realized from proposed Sale 182 alone.
Included also in
the proposed notice are both new and continued measures for increasing deepwater
natural gas and oil production:
A new
incentive in the 400 to 799 meter water depth zone; the incentive would provide
deepwater royalty relief per lease on the first 5 million barrels of oil
equivalent (BOE). MMS analysis suggests that this incentive would encourage
additional production earlier than with no royalty relief.
Continuation
of incentives similarly adopted in year 2001 Gulf of Mexico offshore lease
sales; these incentives provide deepwater royalty relief in the 800 to 1,599
meter water depth zone (9 million BOE per lease) and 1,600 meter and greater
water depth zone (12 million BOE per
lease).
Opportunity
to apply for additional "discretionary" royalty relief, pursuant to new proposed
rulemaking, if certain conditions are satisfied.
An
Information to Lessees provision concerning Subsalt Exploration; this provision
alerts bidders that MMS may propose regulations that would amend requirements
for the granting of a Suspension of Operations under limited circumstances.
MMS recognizes the complexities of subsalt analysis and is considering proposing
more time to a lessee to conduct the needed analysis to determine the best
location for drilling a well.
Proposed Sale
182 encompasses about 4,407 available blocks in the Central Gulf of Mexico
Outer Continental Shelf planning area offshore Louisiana, Mississippi, and
Alabama. This area covers about 23.28 million acres. Blocks in this sale
are located from 3 to 210 miles offshore in water depths ranging from 4 to
more than 3,425 meters. Estimates of undiscovered economically recoverable
hydrocarbons expected to be discovered and produced as a result of this sale
proposal range from 150 to 440 million barrels of oil and 1.53 to 4.39 TCF
of natural gas.
MMS is the federal
agency in the U.S. Department of the Interior that manages the nation's oil,
natural gas and other mineral resources on the outer continental shelf in
federal offshore waters. The agency also collects, accounts for, and disburses
mineral revenues
http://www.mrm.mms.gov/Stats/disb.htm
from federal and Indian leases. These revenues totaled nearly $8 billion
last year and more than $110 billion since the agency was created in 1982.
Annually, nearly $1 billion from those revenues go into the Land and Water
Conservation Fund for the acquisition and development of state and federal
park and recreation lands.
