RDI ADCP for Shell deepwater work
Shell Oil Inc, USA, has installed an RD Instruments long-range current profiling system on one of its Gulf of Mexico exploration drilling rigs. The 38kHz Phased Array Stationary Platform instrument is measuring 1000-meter-long current profiles in real time.

Strong and highly cariable ocean currents can seriously disrupt drilling operations in deepwater frontier areas. RD Instruments' acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) alleviate this disruption by providing data to support a range of operations, including station holding riser deployment and riser VIV (vortext induced vibration) monitoring, ROV operations, marine operations and to provide engineering design criteria. RDIs Phased Array Systems are standard equipment for this type of deepwater current monitoring with 36 instruments at work.
