| Maridan
A/S Uses SeaBat 8125 For AUV Surveys |
With recent successes in the North Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, RESON customer Maridan A/S is now firmly established as a dedicated provider of AUV survey services. Maridan aims to deliver high quality data acquisition and processing results to clients. According to Maridan A/S marketing manager Jesper Peter Baunsgaard, "The data processed from the surveys has resulted in some of the most detailed data sets yet seen in the Gulf of Mexico." The MARIDAN 600 AUV was equipped with a RESON SeaBat 8125 multibeam sonar system.
After
surveying in the North Sea in October 2001, Maridan A/S
recently completed the first round of surveys in the Gulf
of Mexico with great success. Other hardware used included
a Klein Associates' sidescan sonar and GeoAcoustics Ltd's
chirp sub-bottom profiler.
The
data sample at the right shows an abandoned well survey
in 80 feet of water. The entire survey area of 500x500 meters
took four hours at 20 meters line spacing.

| Geonav Custom Interfaces And EZNav Positioning Software And Hardware |
Continuing their association with a major marine systems supplier, Geonav have recently supplied speed Synchro-to-NMEA converters, and magnetic compass data filters. Both of these interfaces were based on standard Geonav products with custom firmware. The GMKW 950 and GMKW 910 are versatile enough to handle almost all synchro and stepper interface and display requirements.
New
Application for Geonav's Fiber Optic Gyrocompass
Taking advantage of its native high update rate the SP 2000
will be used for antenna positioning in a shipboard missile
launch tracking system. This application required a special
output format which was easily done utilizing the tri-processor
power of the Sp 2000 controller.
Interfaces
R US
Geonav are known for quickly producing custom interface
modules and in smaller quantities but their recent order
for 60 interface units for a GPS systems manufacturer was
executed in typical Geonav fashion. The custom serial protocol
conversion units were supplied in both internal and externally
mounted versions.
New
SP 3000 Anchor Handling System
Combining a rugged shipboard unit with GPS controlled radio
multiplexing, the SP3000 is an ideal solution for installation
on anchor handling vessels to display the range and bearing
to drop-point and also to send back the actual drop-point
location. The single box solution does not require a PC
and has an easy to use interface. Control software can be
provided for the barge or rig, or a SDK can be provided
to enable SP3000 units to communicate with existing barge
software.
EZNav
is Coming !
The new positioning software and hardware designed for ease
of use and interpretation of data is in the late stages
of development at Geonav. Versions are planned for simple
sidescan/magnetometer surveys, high resolution seismic,
construction, and pipelay.
Let
them know the version you are interested in seeing. They
can also do custom projects based on EZNav for potential
applications such as multi-ship OBS systems or VP surveys.

| TrackLInk
USBL Tracking System Selected By SeaBotix |
SeaBotix of San Diego, California selects LinkQuest's TrackLInk USBL tracking systems for its LBV ROV.
LBV
is a low cost, full function ROV which is simple to operate,
inexpensive to own and extremely capable. USBL acoustic
tracking, which only requires the installation of one transceiver
on the ship and no sea bed transponder deployment, is a
preferred method for tracking the ROV by LBV customers.
Upon
reviewing available options in the market, SeaBotix selects
LinkQuest's TrackLink 1500LC USBL system as an option to
track the LBV ROV. TrackLink 1500LC system is a low cost
yet highly robust USBL acoustic tracking system. It is based
on modern Acoustic Broadband Spread Spectrum Technology
which offers better rejection to ship noise and multipaths.
Seamlessly integrated with the LBV vehicle, the TrackLink
system offers the ROV operators an inexpensive and convenient
way to track the vehicle and other underwater targets.
The
TrackLink system will be displayed in Seabotix's Booth at
the UI2002 show. For more information, please contact sales@link-quest.com
or sales@seabotix.com.

|
The
ASPRS is pleased to announce the presentation of the world's
first workshop dedicated to Direct Georeferencing. This
full-day session is being offered in conjunction with the
XXII FIG Congress ASPRS/ACSM meeting taking place from April
21-26 2002 in Washington DC.
Presented
by Prof. Karsten Jacobsen (University of Hannover, Germany),

Mr. Joe Hutton (Airborne Systems Manager, Applanix Corporation,
Canada), this workshop is intended for both business and
technical people in the photogrammetric mapping field.
Over
the last decade, Direct Georeferencing has progressed from
a theoretical concept to the recognized, accurate and efficient
approach to photogrammetry it is today. With all three presenters
being pioneers in the field of direct georeferencing, this
workshop promises to be equally accessible yet educational
for novice, advanced and first-time users of this groundbreaking
technique.
The
workshop will take place on Saturday April 20th, from 8:30

| CARIS Software Used By 3001 To Make USACE Atchafalaya River ENC |
CARIS HOM software was used to create the S-57 Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) for the Atchafalaya River recently released by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), New Orleans District.
CARIS
HOM is a comprehensive set of tools for the creation, editing,
update and management of S-57 ENC production data serving
the needs to the project well.
Recognizing
the significance of S-57 ENC production to support navigation
of inland waterways, the USACE, New Orleans District contracted
3001, Inc. and Offshore Charts, Ltd. to convert their USACE
SDS (Spatial Data Standard) GIS database of the Atchafalaya
River into IHO (International Hydrographic Organization)
S-57 Edition 3 ENCs. The most commonly used S-57 production
software worldwide; CARIS HOM was the software of choice
for this project.
3001's
role in the project included development of a methodology
for input of the point, line, and polygon data in the SDS
database into CARIS. Subsequently, using CARIS HOM, Offshore
Charts carried out most of the S-57 object production.
The
implementation of CARIS into a GIS-to-S-57 workflow can
enable USACE offices and other producing offices to enhance
their existing production environment thus adding value
to their products and services.
Providing
software solutions to hydrographic and marine organizations
since 1979, CARIS has gained a secure understanding of the
daily operations, technological needs and challenges faced
by their extensive maritime clientele. Today more than 40
national hydrographic offices and charting authorities use
CARIS software in their chart production systems. To learn
more about CARIS visit http://www.caris.com.

learn more about the project or to download Atchafalaya
River ENC please visit http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/ENG/s-57/atchafalaya.asp.
