OIC Delivers GeoDAS Software To LD Bradley

Honolulu, Hawaii, March 12, 2002-- Oceanic Imaging Consultants, Inc. announces the delivery of an EdgeTech 272-TD dual frequency towfish to L.D. Bradley of Jacksonville, Florida.

The EdgeTech sonar comes complete with 50 meters of the standard EdgeTech analog cable and has been outfitted with an ACI sensor interface kit. OIC’s GeoDAS-PC software serves as the topside control and data processing unit that has been installed in a custom configured ruggedized workstation. L.D. Bradley also took delivery of OIC’s GeoDAS Desktop software, which provides a simple, complete and cost-effective solution for playback, re-processing and mosaicking of sidescan and bathymetry data on desktop PCs. GeoDAS-Desktop reads raw sonar data in a variety of common formats, displays sidescan imagery and multibeam data with a selection of processing and enhancement options.

GeoDAS Version 4, our latest release, represents a major up-grade in data accuracy, with the move to "double point" precision allowing centimeter resolution for all logged, playback & mosaicked outputs. GeoDAS supports datum conversion and projection, not just UTM. Other significant improvements and features include a graphically rich interface, targeting, the client-server mode, datum conversion module including state plane coordinates, tidal & draft correction and a console configurable data format input and output listing.

OIC is an industry leader in the development of seafloor imaging software for underwater mapping applications for the world’s military, commercial and academic markets. OIC provides consulting and data processing services including the scientific analysis and interpretation of sonar data. On time and on target, OIC is charting the way for the future.

Sonsub Awarded Seismic Cable Deployment System Patent

Houston (March 22, 2002): Sonsub, Inc. has been awarded patent no. 6,350,085 B1 for a cable deployment system and method that is ideally suited to efficiently install 4D seismic cables on the seafloor.

This patent allows precise placement of the long seismic cables needed to form large-scale 4D arrays and incorporates a built-in anchor for the second end of the cable as well as an armored riser cable to the surface. The system incorporates direct connection of the seismic cable to the riser cable to the surface and does not require an electrical or fiberoptic swivel.

The system is designed to operate with a single ROV, which is used to set the first end of the cable and then monitors the payout of the cable and controls the location of the cable as it is deployed. The system can be used with or without burial of the seismic cable. The system can be deployed from a typical Diver Support Vessel (DSV), and bends in the cable during placement of the array are performed on the seafloor so that large excursions of the surface vessel are not required.

Sonsub, a Saipem Group company, is recognized as an established leader in the development and application of quality, cost-effective solutions for subsea environments. Specializing in subsea construction engineering and remote intervention, Sonsub maintains offices in the USA, United Kingdom, Norway, Italy and South East Asia. For more information, please contact Marco Sclocchi at Sonsub Inc., 15950 Park Row, Houston, TX 77084. Telephone: +281-552-5674. Fax: +281-552-5909. E-mail: marco.sclocchi@sonsub.com

Valeport Tide Gauges For New Navy Ships
The multi-role Royal Navy hydrographic and oceanographic survey vessels HMS Echo and HMS Enterprise, currently building, will be equipped with tide gauge systems by Valeport Ltd, UK. The ships are being prime contracted by Vosper Thornycroft who have sub-contracted the build to Appledore Shipbuilders, Devon, UK

Four Valeport Model 730T systems will form part of the integrated survey system on each vessel. The seabed-mounted tide gauge collects tidal data and temperature with a pressure accuracy of 0.01 per cent.

For this application the system is supplied with Valeport's Model 750 radio telemetry buoy-based system. This allows data to be telemetered in real time with no need for the vessel to stop and retrieve equipment from the seabed. Bi-directional telemetry is controlled on board the survey vessel by Valeport's standard Windows-based software.

This order follows another recently awarded Royal Navy contract for Valeport to supply 23 Model 740 tide gauges with radio option.
